To anyone who loves, or at least likes kit, I *strongly* suggest that you read the Dear American book "Christmas After All". It's the diary of a girl named Minnie Swift, living in 1932, Indianapolis, Indiana. The setting of course is the depression era. Anyway, it's a book that reminds me SO much of Kit's stories. And not only that, the little girl pictured on the cover looks SO much like a human Kit! The same hair and everything! Although Minnie's family is certainly not poor (they have more money than Kit's family), they still have thier hardships. And the family is actually based off a real one! And the ending is great! This is a book that I usually keep in storage with all the Christmas stuff; I bring it out every year the day after Thanksgiving. But I forgot to pack it away this year, and read it again yesterday. Anyway, you should defintely read this book!

I loved that book! I am a big fan of the entire Dear America series and would definitly recommend them to AG fans with a historical interest. I like that they are longer (150-250 pages each). That book did remind me quite a bit of the Kit stories and I also think fans of her time period and books would love it. They have books in that series for soooo many eras of American history, although I think that is the one that is closest to an AG. Molly fans might like My Secret War which is about a young girl during World War II.

Oh I love those books! I haven't read any in a while because they are a bit below my reading level, but I still have a ton of them from when I did read them. I think I've read the one your talking about. I barely remember it tho, I'm going to have to reread it and a few others.
Excellent series if you like historical fiction, so many are around AG time periods! Those and the royal diaries are good too I haven't read as many of those however.

I read this book just before Christmas and LOVED it! It was everything I hoped it would be not to mention hilarious and heartwarming. I won't give away the ending but I just loved it!

I have 6 of these books and I have enjoyed them all. I'm hoping to get more on ebay this year!

They're below my reading level too but I don't care hehe! I think historical fiction for kids and young adults is much better than adult books which are all so grim.

I loved that one! Awhile back I made a thread of other historical fiction recommendations for AG fans. I can try to find it later and bring it up again for the newbies and add any other books I've read since then.

I have and love that book! I would also recommend Survival in the Storm, also from that era.

I could also probably add quite a few recommendations to that list as well! I have read tons of historical fiction over the years.
